Brand Story – Corban University is bringing four new additions to its online graduate programs, building upon an already well-established curriculum to support a business environment that is increasingly becoming specialized and leadership-focused.
The four programs will maximize the courses that Salem’s private, Christian-oriented Corban University is already offering. In addition, they’ll provide opportunities for students to hone their leadership and administrative skills for application in the unique contexts that today’s business world demands.
The four new programs, a Master of Business Intelligence & Analytics (MBIA), a Master of Leadership in Kinesiology, a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and a Master of Public Safety Administration (MPSA), will launch this fall. Each comprises 30 credit hours and will be offered entirely online in an accelerated 12-month format that is ideal for the working professional.
“The prospective student we’re focused on has already begun their career,” Corban University’s Provost Tom Cornman says. “They are very busy and they need a model that fits with their active lives.”
To best meet the needs of a working professional who already has a busy schedule, these four courses are primarily online but also incorporate face-to-face groups where a small cohort meets to develop ideas and engage with others. Cornman says the program’s outline allows the students to take ownership of their learning.
“We know our faculty are dealing with highly skilled and competent individuals who are already able to bring their experience to bear on their learning,” Cornman says. “Our faculty are shaping the environment and then including space for student-directed, student-to-student learning which takes place within the broader umbrella of the course.”
Corban University has had an MBA program for a number of years. As that went through a program review for the past two and a half years, school administration sought to do more for students who were not on the strict MBA path, so that they could also grow and develop professionally and bring more value to their employees.
Entirely online programs allow students to study anytime, anywhere.
“We see the need to bring quality, professional masters degrees that don’t merely credential but also provide an increased level of skill for the people completing our courses,” Cornman explains. “Credentials are great but employers want to see the skill base and the true qualities of leadership that comes with that credential.”
Corban’s Christ-centered education provides a biblical framework for each of these programs. The new Master of Business Intelligence & Analytics will teach students how to transform data into useful information for decision making by mining, preparing, analyzing, and visualizing data — all skills that are useful for a variety of careers. The Master of Leadership in Kinesiology will provide leadership in skills for kinesiology-related fields such as coaching, gym owning or management, and other fields related to fitness and human performance. The Master of Public Administration (MPA) will equip graduates for successful careers working in public institutions, developing policy, and administering a variety of programs in a compassionate and ethical manner. Finally, the Master of Public Safety Administration will prepare students for careers in law enforcement, corrections, parole and probation, and fire service.
“The beauty of these programs is that we are developing them in areas where we already have excellent programs in place,” Cornman says. “We’re building on the exceptional work the faculty has already been doing and the expertise of our business faculty.”

Corban University has a well-established history with decades-long programming. The school was founded in 1935 in Phoenix, Arizona, and moved to Salem in 1969. Today, the school of about 1,200 students offers undergraduate work in biblical studies, liberal arts, professional studies, and graduate work in business, ministry, education and counseling.
This year, the school celebrated its 50th year at its location in Salem. Over the years, the school has expanded its facilities, student dorms and robust undergraduate programs which support about 900 students. The new programs build upon Corban’s already well-established core business programs including accounting, marketing and the Corban MBA.

Other popular programs include a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, a Master of Divinity, and two Doctor of Ministry programs, among others.
“Through all of our undergraduate and graduate programming, Corban University has a desire to meet the needs of students in the central Willamette Valley by providing the type of programs that the people of the valley need and want in order to excel in their personal and professional lives,” Cornman says.
