Business plan for reinvented sports drink born at Marylhurst

The Oregonian reported that Mark Jensen’s Glukos – a sports drink reinvented as a healthier option than the popular brands – was “born in a Nike lab.” That’s true, though Jensen’s business plan was crafted as his capstone project while he was completing his MBA at Marylhurst University.

In the capstone, Marylhurst MBA students apply theories they’ve learned throughout their coursework to a real-world application. Even those with years of business experience are often putting together comprehensive plans for the first time.

Marylhurst MBA capstones range from improving economic and environmental efficiencies in one’s workplace to launching new and creative business initiatives, such as Jensen’s Glukos sports drink or Morgan Gary’s plan for her sustainable, community-based Spin Laundry Lounge in North Portland.

The capstone is the culmination of an 18- to 21-month course of study in a traditional MBA (with concentrations in finance, marketing, nonprofit management or organizational behavior) or a specialized MBA in health care management, real estate or sustainable business.
