It’s exciting news for Oregon’s salmon fleet, which has been hammered in recent years by poor runs, and for those who hope to dine on its coveted catch. The Pacific Fishery Management Council is projecting that 1.65 million chinook will enter the ocean from the Klamath River this year, the highest forecast the government has ever offered. The Sacramento forecast is at 819,000.
“There should be lots of fish around,” said Chuck Tracy, staff officer for salmon on the agency’s Salmon Technical Team.
