As the Oregon legislative session winds down, the fate of bills requiring school achievement pacts, timber cuts in state forests, remains uncertain.
Kitzhaber still wants bills requiring school districts to enter into achievement compacts with the new Oregon Education Investment Board to set goals for high-school graduation rates, reading skills and other things. He also wants legislative approval of the business plan for an electronic marketplace enabling individuals and small businesses to shop for health insurance.
Republicans want to boost timber cut in state forests and draw more water from the Columbia River, two things they say would add jobs to the economy.
