Corrections leaders have drawn up budget-cutting plans that call for mothballing 1,500 to 1,800 beds and laying off 350 to 400 employees.
New corrections director Colette Peters outlined the potential cuts — totaling $17.2 million — in an email sent to all DOC employees late Friday.
Peters said “multiple” prison closures are being considered, but “the department has not identified which institutions or what level of institutions will be deactivated.”
