Grimm, the only show on a major broadcast network to be filmed and set in Portland, premieres today.

While it’s too soon to know whether viewers across the country will take to “Grimm,” which premieres Friday on KGW, the show represents a major step in Portland’s profile as a home for TV and film production. The show has produced a couple hundred local jobs and has helped put Oregon on track for a record year of spending by Hollywood. 

Vince Porter, executive director of the Oregon Governor’s Office of Film & Television, says having “Grimm” shooting here “means that we’re not only capable of handling multiple television series at once, we’re capable of handling big-budget network projects.” 

Sources familiar with network television production estimate a series like “Grimm” can spend about $2 million an episode, which goes to the local economy.
