The Portland Development Commission is researching the option of developing a district energy system to encompass the Rose Garden Arena, Oregon Convention Center and Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

The system would be part of the Lloyd EcoDistrict, one of the five eco-districts Portland is currently developing.

The feasibility assessment, to be done by Vancouver, British Columbia-based Corix Infrastructure, will be completed once the company and the PDC finalize a memorandum of understanding.

The idea behind district energy is using a unified system to more efficiently heat and cool buildings that are in close proximity to each other. The system also provides flexibility in incorporating renewable energy generation and combined heat and power.
