Work on replacing the deck of Portland’s Morrison Bridge has been stopped temporarily due to a faulty containment system.

The containment system, which is used to prevent debris from falling in the river as crews perform work, was “not performing up to what we need,” [Multnomah County spokesman Mike] Pullen said. “We didn’t want to have a risk of things falling in the river.”

Project team members will need to design a new containment system, which will have to be approved by the county. When that new system is installed, work will begin again, Pullen said.
