An Oregon-based effort is vying to bring part of $510 million in federal funding for biofuel production to the Northwest.

The Obama Administration anted up on a big biofuels bet Tuesday, announcing that the U.S. Departments of Agriculture, Energy and Navy will invest up to $510 million during the next three years in private-sector companies producing biofuels for use in aviation and marine applications.

John Talbott, director of the Sun Grant Western Regional Center at Oregon State University, said his organizations has had ongoing contact with the Department of Defense.
