More Hispanics buying homes in Oregon

While Oregon’s overall homeownership rate fell in the past 10 years, the percentage of Hispanic people owning homes went up according to Census numbers released today.

From 2000 to 2010, the rate of Oregonians owning a home dropped from 64.3 to 62.2 percent. Among those identifying as Hispanic, the rate went up from 37 to 40 percent.

“It’s something researchers have expected as a higher share of the Latino population is American-born and have been here longer,” said Charles Rynerson, a research faculty member of the Population Research Center at Portland State University.
