Gresham, Troutdale and Wood Village have extended fee "holidays" that waive fees for first time business owners.
The cities' programs have helped fill vacant commercial space, but city administrators in Troutdale and Wood Village found that many of the new or expanding businesses would have gone right ahead without the incentives, they said. They've tweaked their criteria in response, trying to make sure that the fee holidays benefit the kinds of businesses they want to attract.
In Gresham, more than 30 businesses have taken advantage of a program meant to help fill vacancies in downtown, Civic or central Rockwood districts. The license and development fees were waived for those businesses' owners, who occupy nearly 43,000 square feet of commercial space, according to mayor Shane Bemis.
