Negotiators finally convinced Korean officials that Oregon’s berries can be shipped free of pests and diseases, state officials said Friday. Shipments will begin July 1, and could amount to between 200,000 and 500,000 pounds the first year, according to the Oregon Agriculture Department.
At about $5 a pound delivered, that’s at least $1 million in sales — not a huge amount, but significant as state exports to South Korea recover from the global economic slump and as Asiana Airlines begins flying freighters between Portland and Seoul.
