Asiana Airlines is launching freighter flights between Portland and Seoul in September that will transport goods from Nike, Intel and Oracle.

PDX lost international air cargo service about four years ago, so the new service is significant, braving the headwinds of the uncertain global economic climate and the rising cost of fuel.

Gov. John Kitzhaber and Young Wan Song, South Korea’s new Seattle-based consul general, are scheduled to participate in a Portland news conference Wednesday morning, along with Bill Wyatt, executive director of the Port of Portland, which operates the airport.
