A cold spring has made Oregon fruit crops late by two weeks.
“We’re about as late as I’ve ever seen,” [cherry grower Ken Bailey of Orchard View Farms] said May 23. “Some of our late varieties are just past bloom.”
“The old rule of thumb is late crop, light crop,” [Roy Malensky, owner of Oregon Berry Packing Co.] said. But growers are hopeful that won’t be the case this year.
