SoloPower will bring a $340 million manufacturing plant to North Portland, after running into roadblocks with its earlier plans to relocate to Wilsonville.

The company hopes to employ 500 workers at the plant within five years.

Portland city officials called a press conference for 10 a.m. Friday to formally announce the SoloPower deal.

In February, the company received a $197 million loan guarantee from the U.S. Department of Energy for the proposed plant. It also recently raised $51.6 million and said it was seeking another $20 million. All told, the company planned to invest up to $340 million in the project.
