Eugene’s Inn at the 5th isn’t set to open until September, but customers are already attempting to make reservations at the downtown hotel.

Other downtown Eugene business owners hope the area’s first boutique hotel will boost tourism in the area.

And [Owner Brian] Obie and [General Manager Kim] Dinsmoor said they have been getting requests for reservations for some months now, particularly for peak periods such as home football games for the University of Oregon and next year’s track and field trials for the U.S. Olympic team. The pair are pleased, but a bit uncomfortable with the requests, since the closest thing they have to a reservations system at this point is a yellow legal pad.

But, Obie said, the interest confirms his belief that Eugene is ready for what he hopes will be its first hotel to receive four stars by AAA and Mobil Exxon.
