The Lake Oswego City Council is scheduled to vote tonight on whether it should get on board or try to derail plans to extend a Portland streetcar line to the city.

The vote serves as the main course of tonight’s council meeting set to begin at 6 p.m. in Lake Oswego City Hall. The resolution on the table is whether the council will support or oppose previous votes made by the Lake Oswego to Portland Transit Project’s citizen advisory committee and regional steering committee and recommend a streetcar as a transit option connecting the two cities.

Both groups overwhelmingly voted in February for the streetcar over two other options identified in the project: an enhanced bus service and no-build alternative. The transit project is designed to find a solution to future congestion on Oregon 43.
