Construction on the final phase of a three-year runway rehabilitation program has begun at Portland International Airport.

The final phase will reconstruct the airport’s south runway, worn down by years of aircraft use.

The Port of Portland rehabilitated the north runway in 2009, and last year extended it from 8,000 feet to 9,825 feet, allowing larger aircraft to use it while the south runway closes for reconstruction.
