Oregon is the second state to require most diesel sold to contain at least 5% biodiesel, up from 2%.

Portland has required 5% biodiesel since 2007.

Echo farmer Kent Madison praised the move. He produces enough biodiesel from canola to run his farm equipment with 100 percent biodiesel and sells his surplus.

“Oregon has once again shown the nation that you can have green energy and carbon neutral fuel sources and still not bankrupt themselves,” he said. “My hat is off to the staying power of Oregonians to make the right choice and then stand by it.”
