Still waiting on Vestas


The company still plans a Portland headquarters, but there are continued delays.

It’s still to be seen whether Vestas Americas will follow through on its promise of a new Portland headquarters, but city leaders hope it will happen. Maybe once the economy improves….

The Danish wind turbine company, which has its North American headquarters in Portland, took a pass on the city’s offer to base a research facility here in 2008 and, more recently, delayed plans to relocate its headquarters to South Waterfront.

“We have been to the altar with Vestas before,” said Jim Francesconi, a Portland lawyer and former Portland city commissioner. “If the project is not going to proceed, the city needs to withdraw its offer and start over again.”
