Environmental groups and health care advocates pitched a bill to the Oregon Senate that would prohibit BPA in children’s drink containers.

Senate Bill 695 is an improved version of a bill pitched in the 2010 legislative session.

[Sen. Brian] Boquist is working on an amendment to the bill that would aim to set up a third-party certification and labeling organization, similar to how Oregon supported labeling for organic food — a trend that brought a market advantage to early adopters.

“You will find an industry that will turn down this bill, but you won’t find an industry that will turn down a 40 percent market advantage,” Boquist said.
