The company’s lawyer said at a Senate committee hearing Monday that the bill unfairly targets a successful, family-owned Oregon company, one that has helped fishermen by developing new markets. But some fishermen charge that the company has created an illegal monopoly, holding down prices for Oregon’s fishing fleet.
Senate Bill 668 was introduced by Gold Beach Republican Wayne Krieger, a former Oregon State Police trooper who said the bill grew out of a frustration with Pacific Seafoods’ ability to use its power to hurt competition in fish prices.
