Construction trades have been hit particularly hard by the economic downturn, which in turn has affected fatality figures.
Oregon’s Department of Consumer and Business Affairs reported Tuesday morning that in 2010 only 17 Oregonians covered by the state’s workers’ compensation system died on the job. That’s an all-time low in Oregon, according to the agency.
In 2009, there were 31 fatalities. In 2008, 45 people died on the job (eight in a firefighting helicopter crash). In 2007, the total was 35.
