ON Semiconductor plans to spend $30 million to expand its computer chip factory in Gresham this year.

The company will add 70 jobs with the expansion.

The Oregonian reported last month that ON Semi would shift some work from Japan to Gresham, following the company’s recent acquisition of Sanyo Electric Co.’s chip division.

Today, ON Semi said that transfer –and additional upgrades to more advanced chip technologies — will significantly expand the capabilities of its Gresham facility, beginning this spring.
