The major players include MotoCzysz, Brammo Inc., Arcimoto LLC and Rinehart Motion Systems.
In October, Popular Science magazine called the MotoCzysz E1PC “the most advanced electric motorcycle in the world.”
Michael Czysz had been concentrating on a gasoline-powered racing motorbike, until a 2007 rule changed the size of the engine allowed in races, sending engineers back to the drawing board. Czysz decided to go all electric.
“The change to electric was more about inevitability than opportunity,” Czysz told Motor Cyclist magazine in November 2010. “I love racing, but I always knew… it was kind of pointless,” he told an interviewer. “You risk lives, you waste tons of fuel, and for what? To ride around in circles? Now I feel like I’m doing important work. The work I’m doing with this motorcycle might someday actually make the world a better place.”
