Oregon Country Trails, which encourages urban visitors to spend their money at rural businesses, is expanding into the mid-Willamette Valley.

The agri-tourism “trails” are self-guided routes into Oregon’s countryside featuring outings to 235 farms, art galleries, fishing holes, dude ranches, wineries, berry patches, golf, lodging, bakeries, and other adventures including a petrified forest. It is Oregon’s only branded agri-tourism system.

The country trail network encourages visitors to drop by businesses and farms to learn about rural Oregon, though some ask visitors to telephone in advance. Following a country trail can be a ticket for a farm visit, or it simply could provide incentive to stop at wineries, diners or produce stands whose owners hope to benefit from this new form of marketing.
