ON Semiconductor will close two of its newly acquired chip factories in Japan and move the work to its Gresham facility.

It’s unclear how many workers the ON expansion will require. Janet Young, the director of economic development services with the city, declined to comment.

Sanyo Electric Co. already had the closures in the works last summer when Arizona-based ON Semi agreed to buy Sanyo’s chip division. The companies completed the deal last week, with ON Semi paying $144 million and drawing $378 million from a loan agreement with Sanyo.
