The company hopes to hire back the workers by early spring.
Executive Vice President Chuck Wert said Thursday that the company employs about 200 people at the plywood plant in Springfield and about 200 at its plywood plant in Glendale, north of Grants Pass. But all of the layoffs — about 100 positions — will occur at the Springfield plant because it makes the most strategic sense for the company, he said.
The Glendale-based company sent a letter to employees on Nov. 23, notifying them of the layoffs and saying there are several jobs at the company’s Noti plant that they can apply for.
Laid-off workers will be recalled “as needed,” according to the letter, including to replace other workers who refuse to be reassigned, to fill positions that occur because of turnover, or “increased staffing due to changes in market conditions which we anticipate will happen in the next few months,” according to the letter, which was signed by plant superintendent Ken Munyon.
