Home sales plummet


Portland-area home sales are down 35.7% since this month last year, according to a report by the Regional Multiple Listing Service.

Portland-area home sales are down 35.7% since this month last year, according to a report by the Regional Multiple Listing Service.

This comes at the same time that retail sales have been stronger than expected.

Dustin Miller, a Realtor with Realty Trust in Lake Oswego, said he is encouraged by the higher consumer spending. “I’m hoping that homes follow cars,” he said.

That said, the numbers in October were tough. Miller said he was hoping for an autumn surge of activity like the uptick that surprised and delighted real estate agents a year ago.
