The red-hot retailer with super-low prices also plans to move into Washington Square, and is considering Lloyd Center and Clackamas Town Center.
“People are looking for ways to make their dollars go further, and I think H&M will be tremendously successful,” said Pam Coven, a longtime retailer and co-owner of Imelda’s Shoes and Louie’s Shoes for Men. “It could revitalize Pioneer Place.”
In the past five years, retail analysts and developers say, Pioneer Place got lost in the mix of its parent, General Growth Properties Inc. — a Chicago-based conglomerate that’s better known for its mastery of large suburban malls.
“But this is downtown Portland and they really need to step it up,” said Jennifer Black, a national retail analyst based in Lake Oswego. “Pioneer Place is outdated and hasn’t changed at all with the times.”
