State houses hinge on Schrader


Both houses of the Oregon Legislature could be split down the middle if incumbent Democrat Martha Schrader’s miniscule lead over Alan Olsen is wiped away in Senate District 20.

The incumbent is beating Alan Olsen by just 152 votes. A loss could leave the Senate split evenly between Republicans and Democrats.

As of midnight, Schrader led Olsen by 152 votes out of almost 39,000 already counted. If the current statewide numbers hold, Democrats will retain control of the state senate by a 16-14 margin. But if Schrader falters, the senate will be split evenly between Democrats and Republicans.
