Portland-based Benson Industries is building the facade for the new One World Trade Center to be built on the site of the 2001 terrorist attack.

The company is responsible for the facades of many prominent buildings in Portland, including the U.S. Bancorp Tower, the new Port of Portland headquarters at the airport, the Rose Garden arena, the KOIN and Fox towers, as well as several condo towers.

Benson won the $160 million contract in 2007, then spent a year designing and testing components, including the ability to withstand explosions. The glass came from Minnesota, and the pieces were assembled in Gresham over the past two years.
