Property owners in Portland can expect two percent increase in their taxes this year.

The change is mostly due to bond levies and a jump in assessed value, even as market values and home values continue to slide.

Property tax bills are being mailed between Oct. 15 and 25. Multnomah County will send out about 300,000 property tax statements. About 188,000 property tax statements will be mailed to Washington County property owners. Statements will be mailed to 172,587 property owners in Clackamas County.

Multnomah County expects to collect about $1.217 billion, an increase of 1.8 percent from $1.195 billion collected in 2009. The taxes support 69 local government taxing districts, including local fire, water and special assessment districts, Metro, TriMet and the Port of Portland.
