Ashland-based Folium Partners has produced over 500 smartphone applications in the past year, and hopes to have 1,000 by the end of the year.

The company has developed a new kind of audiobook for the smartphone and tablet computer market.

Next month, Folium Partners — Ben Bellinson, John Lee, Steve Christensen and Jay Tapp — will branch into an allied market, launching ModernBookFactory.com — an automated audiobook and app-creation service.

The first-of-its-kind service will enable independent publishers, authors and copyright owners to upload manuscripts, select narrators, with professionally produced audio and have their books produced as self-contained audiobook apps within 30 days. From there, Folium Partners will place apps on Apple iTunes App Store, on Android Market and on the copyright owner’s website as a digital download.
