Rick Perry noncommittal about BPA future, Intel, Under Armour execs join Trump council exodus, and Salem taxes fund affordable housing project.
Rick Perry hush hush on future of BPA. The Secretary of Energy toured the McNary Dam Monday alongside Rep. Greg Walden and Rep. Dan Newhouse. The president’s budget includes a proposal to privatize the Bonneville Power Administration and sell off BPA assets, including the dam. Perry said hydroelectricity will continue to play a role in the U.S. energy sector, but was noncommittal about BPA’s future. The East Oregonian has the story.
Intel and Under Armour execs leave Trump council. Under Armour’s Kevin Plank and Intel’s Brian Krzanich resigned from the American Manufacturing Council after the President failed to denounce the white nationalists responsible for weekend violence in Charlottesville. Krzanich and Plank followed the lead of Merck’s Kenneth Fraizer, who left the day before. Tesla’s Elon Musk was the first to leave the group in June, after Trump pulled out of the Paris climate accords.
Salem funds affordable housing. At least 180 affordable apartments will be available in 2019 thanks to local tax subsidies. The project is one of the first to receive funding from the 2015 Local Innovation and Fast Track program. The Statesman Journal has the story.
Division Street pod makes way for housing. The food cart pod known as Tidbit will close in October. The three-year-old pod was sold to a developer with plans for a 67-unit mixed use complex. Willamette Week has more.
Niche bison market growing in Oregon. Bison meat is now available from 14 Oregon ranches, Capital Press reports. The new industry is already valued at more than $350 million a year.
