Oregon AG threatens suit over Cascade-Siskiyou monument, Kitzhaber subject of another ethics investigation and OSU lands $122 million for a ship.
As some of you may recall, I wrote an article last year entitled, Does Anyone in Portland Work in the Summer? (The title was inspired by a question posed by my editor, Linda Baker.) I was reminded of that article this morning as I commuted in to work. Let’s just say the streets are a bit empty this morning.
Cascade-Siskiyou back in the news. This time the Oregon Attorney General is threatening to sue the Trump Administration if the monument’s boundaries change. The monument is currently under review by the Department of Interior. OPB has more.
Not the end for Kitzhaber either. The Oregon Government Ethics Commission announced it will launch an investigation to determine if former Governor and First Lady Cylvia Hayes used their positions for financial gain. Read the story from the Statesman Journal.
OSU takes to the ocean. Oregon State University has been awarded $122 million in federal grant money for a new ocean research vessel. The university has hosted a research vessel since 1975, but the new ship could be the first in a three-piece technologically-advanced fleet. The Oregonian has the story.
Is the brownfield back? As Portland’s struggle to grow continues, the city is considering ways to develop brownfield sites. This could mean a tax incentive program in the near future. The Portland Business Journal has more.

Belmont Zupan’s being replaced by H MART. Editor Linda Baker wrote about the store’s closing when it was first announced in January. Zupan’s occupied itslocation for 20 years and pioneered Portland’s mixed-use development pattern. As the Portland Business Journal reports, Asian grocery H MART is taking up shop.
