A new Best Buy opened in Medford Friday, giving residents hope that the string of retail closures plaguing the area is coming to an end.

The lengthy trend that saw the likes of Circuit City, Linens ‘N Things and Hancock Fabric disappear was reversed in the same building where Joe’s Sports, Outdoor and More went out of business 15 months ago.

The last major retailer to arrive in the county with a hefty payroll was the Eagle Point Walmart Supercenter in August 2007.
