State reports Zoom+ Health financial discrepancy, business coalition fights against corporate tax and national parks generate $138 million for Oregon economy.
State finds discrepancy in Zoom+ Health financials
Three weeks after being placed on supervision, state regulators identified a discrepancy in Zoom+ Health Inc’s financial reporting, the Portland Business Journal reports. Zoom has also pulled its insurance from the marketplace, as of Dec. 31.
Business coalition forms against corporate tax
Legislators have been leaning on a new corporate tax to help relieve the $1.6 billion deficit. But that proposal has been complicated thanks to new business opposition, OPB reports. Portland Business Alliance president Sandra McDonough says corporate taxes have become politically toxic in Oregon and they want to avoid another election fight. Associated Oregon Industries and the Oregon Business Association join the PBA in opposition.
National parks generate $138 million for Oregon’s economy
The 2016 total is up $24 million from last year and $58 million from five years ago, the Oregonian reports. The parks also generated $50.6 million in wages for 1,600 jobs. The report shows the majority of the economic impact — $60 million — came from secondary sources, which includes money spent regionally.
Adidas releases three new ocean plastic shoes
The athletic giant produced its first shoe made from recycled ocean plastic two years ago. Now Adidas is producing three more sneakers using the recycled material, the Portland Business Journal reports.
Newport’s Trident Seafoods Corp. fined again by DEQ
The seafood company was fined $37,500 for wastewater violations, the Statesman Journal reports. This is the second time this year Trident has been fined for environmental violations. The 26 violations cited this week included failing to monitor wastewater from the facility and exceeding permitted pollution limits.
