Eugene police are hoping to avoid violent confrontations when GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump arrives today  for a rally at the Lane Events Center.

From the Eugene Register-Guard:

The city’s officers will help with Trump’s security from the time he arrives until the time he leaves, with a motorcade escort — something law enforcement did not provide to Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders, who visited Springfield late last month. The campaign and law enforcement have not released details of where and when Trump will arrive and leave, but it is presumed that he is flying in and out of Eugene Airport.

“With (Trump), there has been some violence around their campaign visits, so we’ve taken that into account, and we’ll have a policing presence that is intended … to deter that kind of thing from happening,” Kerns said. “We’re pretty well prepared.”
