SolarWorld plans to increase workforce after factory upgrade


The silicon solar producer plans to hire 200 workers after expanding its Hillsboro factory.

After layoffs rocked the once 1,000-strong staff at SolarWorld’s Hillsboro facility, shrinking the company’s local payroll to 600, the solar panel manufacturer has been hiring back up, getting that number back above 900.

The largest crystalline silicon solar producer in the Americas recently finished converting 105,000 square feet of underutilized space at its Hillsboro factory into manufacturing square footage. That means the company is now capable of producing 150 more megawatts-worth of solar panels each year.
