Intel revises financial reports model

The semiconductor company announced Tuesday that it will change its format for quarterly reports.

The company said it plans to break out results for operations associated with Altera Corp., another Silicon Valley chip maker that Intel purchased for $16.7 billion in a deal that closed in December. Those numbers will be reported in what Intel now calls its programmable solutions group.

Intel also will separately disclose the revenue and operating profit of a business selling products based on chips called flash memory. That segment will be called the nonvolatile memory solutions group, Intel said.
