Pembina drops Portland propane project

Plans for a $500 million propane oil terminal were abandoned after lack of support from city officials.

Pembina Pipeline Corp., in its annual report issued last Friday, said it is dropping a proposal to develop its North American West Coast Terminal in Portland. The decision came Feb. 25, according to the Calgary, Alberta, company's "annual information form."

A spokesman for Pembina on Monday confirmed that the decision comes because of "a lack of support by the mayor and city council." After initially supporting the project, Portland's Mayor Charlie Hales blocked Pembina's efforts last year, saying the terminal didn't meet Portland's environmental standards.
