Willamette Week and Street Roots took over as hosts for the Portland mayoral debate after the Oregonian cancelled it Monday night.
Eight candidates attended the debate at Revolution Hall, according to the Willamette Week.
With WW’s Beth Slovic, Street Roots’ Israel Bayer, and Jefferson Smith moderating, the debate had a casual atmosphere. Ted Wheeler, with his neatly combed hair and buttoned-up shirt, sat just next to Bim Ditson, who sported a leather jacket and a Mohawk.
Yet the candidates mostly agreed with each other. Everybody concluded that Portland city government needed more representation of people of color, Portland needed more protections for renters, more investment in green buildings, better bike lanes.

Jefferson Smith, former Portland mayoral candidate and Oregon state representative, moderated the event, according to OPB.
OPB also reports “[the] debate featured a fast-paced format, designed to give each candidate a chance to speak briefly on a number of topics.”
