As we worked on the October cover, it became evident that Nick Symmonds is a hard man to catch — even when he’s not hotfooting it around a track.
We had precious few days to capture the man on film* as he was due to fly out to Beijing for the IAAF World Championships. Nick’s schedule was full but he had a local race/appearance scheduled (the FloTrack Throwdown) and photographer Jason E. Kaplan was duly dispatched to chase him down and get the shot.
*Turned out, Symmonds did not race due to his steadfast sponsor loyalties. And yes, it was a digital image sensor but that sounds so much less romantic than film.
