Oregon’s October unemployment rate, while still more than a percentage point higher than the U.S. rate, is not the worst among its neighbors. Nevada and California surpassed Oregon in July and their rates are now significantly higher.  Within Oregon, Bend is suffering more than any other metro area, with two and a half times the unemployment rate of four years ago.  Eastern Oregon, often experiencing higher unemployment during boom times, has not seen the same rate jump as the state’s urban areas.
