Oregon trucking tax receipts dropped 14.0% for the first six months of 2009 compared to the same period last year, while the U.S. freight transportation services index down-shifted 13.4%. Tax receipts reached their summit in 2007, surpassing $252 million before declining to $240 million in 2008 as economic and freight activity slowed to a crawl. Even June diesel prices dropping more than $2.25 per gallon over the year failed to rev the engines of the trucking industry.
