100 Best Companies
heats up in 2007
Portland, OR– A record number of companies and employees
participated in the 2007 100
Best Companies to Work for in Oregon survey, Oregon Business
magazine’s annual analysis of the top companies in the
state. Over 31,000 employees at 342 companies filled out
confidential surveys this year to help determine the final
rankings. Participating employees represented 1.7% of
employed Oregonians.
This year’s survey was also more competitive than in
years past, with 111 large companies and 231 small companies
participating. Overall, the number of companies
participating was up 32% from last year.
"The 100 Best
Companies survey continues to gain momentum
statewide” says Oregon Business Editor Robin Doussard.
“This year’s record participation really
demonstrates the commitment to workplace excellence.”
The results of this year’s survey will be announced at a
special evening event on March 1st at the Oregon Convention
Center. Jennifer Robin of the Great Place to Work
Institute, the research and consulting firm that produces Fortune magazine’s 100
Best Companies to Work For in America, will deliver the keynote
address. Ms. Robin is a consultant specializing in
leadership, motivation, organizational culture and development,
and is the co-author of A
Life in Balance: Finding Meaning in a Chaotic World,
which examines ways professionals find balance in their work
and personal lives.
“The best companies in Oregon are truly setting the
standard for the rest, and it’s a great opportunity to be
part of celebrating their achievement,” concludes
Doussard.
The Oregon Business 100 Best
Companies to Work for survey
Oregon Business has
conducted the annual study of best practices for the last 13
years. The survey has two parts — a satisfaction survey
completed by employees and a benefits survey submitted by
company management. Rankings are derived from scores of both
parts of the survey, with the employee survey counting for 5/6
of the total score, and the benefit survey counting for the
remaining 1/6 of the total score.
The 100 Best list
recognizes 50 large companies, defined as those with more than
250 employees and 50 small companies, defined as those with
less than 250 employees, for excellence the following areas:
benefits and compensation, work environment; decision-making
and trust; performance management; and career development and
learning. The list will revealed for the first time at the
awards banquet and published in the March 2007 issue of Oregon
Business.
