The Multnomah Bar Association announces ProtectOregonCourts.org, a new website devoted to informing citizens about Oregon courts, preserving the impartiality of the judiciary and opposing attempts to threaten our judicial system, undercut resources to the judicial branch or reduce access to justice for all citizens.
Visit the new website to learn how courts will be negatively affected if the January 2010 statewide tax measures fail; reductions to courts’ budgets statewide will result in closing courts at least one day a week. This will delay protective orders for victims of domestic violence, stalking and elder abuse because they will not be able to obtain protective orders on those days. Business, personal injury, debt collection and divorce cases would be significantly delayed. The new site demonstrates, through example photographs, the poor conditions found in many of the court facilities around the state. Only 10 of the 48 Oregon court facilities met state-adopted guidelines when they were surveyed in 2008. Oregon’s court technology system was built in the 1980s; find out how eCourt will save the state significant resources and make case information, details and records immediately available to judges. See how Oregon eCourt will transform state courts’ physical filing system of paper copy format, stored in rows and rows of filing cabinets, in thousands and thousands of feet of space, to electronic storage and access capabilities. Other topics found on the new Web site include a description of the Oregon state court system, the judicial branch, juror information, resources for schools and members of the public, information and resources for the media, links to the various Oregon courts and law-related organizations, and stories about courts and courthouses. # Lawyers associated for justice, service, professionalism, education and leadership for our members and our community. |
