Columbia Forest Products heads for Greensboro

The sting of the news that Oregon will lose another large corporate headquarters with Columbia Forest Products uprooting to Greensboro, N.C., was softened a bit by the fact that retiring CEO Harry Demorest, a longtime civic and business leader, plans to remain in town and involved. Demorest, 65, will stay on the board of Columbia Forest Products and remain a member of the Oregon Investment Council.

Drought, fire afflict eastern counties

In August, Malheur County became the fifth Oregon county to declare an emergency as drought conditions and high temperatures continue to sap ranch and farmland and spark wildfires throughout the region.
