Company buys Polk County vineyards

Dundee-based NW Wine Company bought two vineyards in Polk County for more than $3.87 million that will add 400 acres to their operation.

For NW Wine Company, the purchase provides another source of pinot noir and pinot gris grapes. It also might be a sign of the Monmouth area’s accession in the wine industry.

Polk County Tax Assessor Doug Schmidt said sales of agricultural property exceeding $1 million are rare in the mostly rural county. The NW Wine Company partners, however, are the second group to make a big vineyard purchase in the past year according to Schmidt.
